Breaking Ground on the Carolina Museum of the Marine

On May 17, the Samet Wilmington team joined a crowd of over 500 supporters, including US Marine Corps members, project partners, and local community leaders, to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Carolina Museum of the Marine. This momentous event marked the start of a project that will honor the extraordinary contributions of Marines and Sailors in the Carolinas while creating a space for education, remembrance, and community connection.

A Grand Celebration of Service and Legacy

The groundbreaking ceremony was as remarkable as the project itself. Guests were welcomed by the inspiring sounds of the US Marine Corps Band and surrounded by symbolic displays, including a fully restored military Jeep Willy with mounted machine gun, heavy machinery like a bulldozer and excavator, and a massive US flag flying proudly above the site.

Speeches from esteemed leaders such as North Carolina State Senator Michael Lazzara and MCI-East CG Brigadier General Adolfo Garcia underscored the significance of the museum and its role in preserving the legacy of the Marines and Sailors who serve our country. Distinguished guests, decorated veterans, active-duty service members, and supporters came together to turn the soil and officially launch the construction of this incredible project.
