Tanglewood Clubhouse Team Hosts West Forsyth High School Students
About
We had an amazing time hosting students from West Forsyth High School’s CTE program at our Tanglewood Clubhouse project.
Over the past year, we’ve been teaming up with Kimberly Hayes, the Career Development Coordinator at West Forsyth, to get students interested in construction, welding, and electrical work. For students with a curiosity about these fields, this visit let them see firsthand how these skills play out on a real site and gave them a heads-up about potential internships they could take on during winter, spring, or summer breaks.
Stretch & Flex
The day kicked off with a Stretch & Flex session to introduce students to one of our core values: Safety. Lisa Gilgeours from Gilgeours Construction, one of our minority partners, shared her story about what it’s like to be a construction entrepreneur. We also had a rep from Stitch Design + Development, who started out in Forsyth County’s carpentry program, talk about how his background in carpentry helped him pursue architecture. It really opened the students’ eyes to the variety of paths within the construction world.
Thank You
It’s so valuable for these students to see the opportunities in the trades, especially for those who might be considering alternatives to a four-year college. Not every student is headed to university right after high school, so opportunities like this are extremely valuable to showcase other rewarding careers that could be right around the corner.
A huge thank you to the Tanglewood Site team for bringing energy and knowledge to these young minds!
