Samet and SRS, Inc. collaborated with Winston-Salem State University, the UNC School of the Arts, and Forsyth Tech Community College to establish a shared research, design, and classroom facility. This 24,000 SF facility, located on a rehabilitated brownfield site within the Winston-Salem State University campus, offers a modern center that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration encompassing research, technology, art, and science studies.
During the construction of these state-of-the-art buildings, Samet facilitated an on-site Building Information Modeling (BIM) kiosk. This resource provided all involved tradespeople with access to crucial models and drawings. The main facility is built with a structural steel frame, steel deck, and concrete floors, which resulted from formed concrete construction. The adjacent “cube” structure was constructed from twenty 56-foot precast panels, the transport of which required permits from the Department of Transportation.
This was a very complex project with a tight schedule, complex site issues and a surrounding environment that could not be disrupted by the construction process. The Samet team did an incredible job constructing this building with these parameters.
