Local students participate in CHS SHED Build

On Thursday, March 13th, students from six area high schools participated in the 2024 SHED Build event organized by ABC Carolinas and the Charleston Chamber. Each high school team partnered with a local general contractor (GC) and subcontractor for this hands-on experience, tasked with constructing an 8’x11′ shed in just 7 hours.

All teams received identical shed blueprints and were mentored by their contractor coaches on safety, quality, planning, scheduling, and communication before the build day. Samet and Cullum collaborated to lead the Berkeley High School team. The team worked diligently on their shed and secured an impressive 2nd place in the SHED competition, narrowly missing the top spot by just 3 points.

The competition was judged on technical correctness, completeness, safety, housekeeping, and coaching. Demonstrating remarkable dedication, the Berkeley High School students stayed after the competition concluded to finish their shed build before sundown.
