Samet Corporation says its crews take part in “toolbox talks” to go over safety procedures on-site.
As temperatures soar across the Triad, Samet Corporation is adjusting work schedules and implementing safety protocols to keep its crews safe in the heat.
A company spokesperson tells us start times are shifted depending on the weather. Our team saw crews arriving at a construction site around 6 a.m. on East Market Street.
“Safety is a priority,” Tyler Ceparano, Regional Safety Manager for Samet Corporation, said.
Each morning, crews take part in a “daily huddle” where supervisors outline high-risk activities and identify optimal times for water breaks. On especially hot weeks like this one, the company sets up cool-down stations at active job sites and distributes watermelon to workers. They also hold brief safety refreshers known as “toolbox talks.”
Crews are encouraged to wear light-colored clothing, stay in the shade when possible, and drink water frequently. Coffee is discouraged on hot days due to its dehydrating effects.
For workers required to wear face masks because of the materials they handle, Ceparano recommends switching masks regularly to maintain airflow and prevent overheating.
