The Donald Julian Reaves (DJR) Student Activities Center is a cutting-edge 96,000 SF structure and a hub for student activities at Winston-Salem State University. Given its location on a hillside with a 70-foot drop, the center’s construction required meticulous planning and execution. The foundation was systematically built to accommodate the slope. The lower level of the facility incorporates 20-foot-high robust concrete walls, constructed using a step foundation design.
The ground floor is home to the food court, a dual-court gymnasium, and a weight room. The second floor, endearingly referred to as the “living room of the campus,” offers a student lounge equipped with a fireplace and a game room. The third level is adorned with an indoor waterfall and includes a lounge for commuting or non-traditional students, an indoor jogging track, and two group fitness rooms.
