Samet Charleston Joins Lung Force Walk to Support Cancer Research

Samet Associates in Charleston turned out in force over the weekend to help raise money for cancer research. The team participated in the annual Lung Force Run/Walk hosted by the American Lung Association. In total, the team raised $1,225, contributing to a record $117,253 raised by Charleston’s ALA branch for the Lung Force event. Samet’s contribution alone is enough to fund two days of lung cancer research.

According to the American Lung Association, more than 102,000 people in the Charleston area suffer from lung disease, including lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and asthma. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. Officials estimate that in South Carolina, more than 4,600 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year, and 2,600 people will die from the disease.
