- Glen Raven Fabrics, Inc. chose to restore and renovate a piece of its company’s history for its global headquarters — the very first Glen Raven plant, built in 1901. This original brick and timber building in Alamance County is giving new life to the mill with a design aesthetic that marries both historic and contemporary interior design. A new 30-foot glass atrium, complete with a wide maple staircase, welcomes employees and visitors into the space with natural lighting. Original tumbled brick was vapor-blasted to remove many years’ worth of paint and lines around the perimeter. An open-air layout showcases private offices in and around the original timber beams.
- Details include: An interior atrium with 20-foot trees bringing nature inside, unbricked and restored arched windows preserve the historic feel of the building, original wooden flooring was repurposed into into tongue-and-groove planks and installed on the second floor. Glass-front conference rooms and open communal spaces offer transparent meeting spaces. Employees may also meet in smaller, more informal gatherings in the theater-style training room.
